Abstract

This essay reflects on my experiences at UMass Lowell, especially as they apply to my current professional work. I graduated in 2015 with a Spanish major. Looking back, I found that UMASS Lowell has really prepared me for the real world. Since graduating, I have been working at a company called Massachusetts Mentor as a Bilingual Therapeutic Mentor. It has been a fantastic job opportunity where I apply what I learned in college in my early career. At Massachusetts Mentor, I work with inner-city children to help improve their lives as much I can. There have been a couple of instances with these kids that have shown me how my work impacts not only my clients, but their families as well. It is truly rewarding when your education, skills, passions, and professional goals can all be combined into one. I hope that you seriously consider Spanish as a major as it is and will continue to be a great benefit to pursue in college and beyond.
