Electric Vehicles (EV) are becoming essential to fleet operations, providing cost savings, and reducing carbon footprints. EV charging access cards are required to use the ChargePoint electric charging stations that are across campus. These access cards are assigned to a specific vehicle and should not be interchanged with any other vehicle.

- Start Charging: Tap Your Card on the reader screen at the station. You will hear a click, and the cable should be released for you take it out.
- Connect the Charger: Take the charging cable and plug it into your vehicle’s charging port. The station will confirm the connection.
- Charging Process: Monitor the charging progress on the station screen.
- End Charging: Once charging is complete, unplug the cable and be sure to return the cable to its holder and plug it back into the station.
Charging Best Practices:
To help manage the usage and keep them operational for all users across the campus community we ask that you follow these best practices.
- Charge Off-Peak hours – Charge vehicles during off peak hours / overnight to free up stations during the day for other users and to cut back on the electricity usage during peak times.
- Charging should always be done on campus at a university ChargePoint station unless traveling and not possible.
- Once a vehicle is charged it should be moved to a regular parking space within a responsible timeframe, so others can charge as well. All campus ChargePoint stations require active charging when parked in these spaces
- Email notification will be set up for users when the vehicle is fully charged. This can be requested by email to: UCAPS@uml.edu. In the email you would just want to include the vehicle license plate or ChargePoint card number if known and who should be notified when the charging is completed.
- Report any issues with the charging stations promptly to the UCAPS office so they can be addressed and repaired.
