Three Easy Steps to Secure Your Home on Campus for 2025-2026
1. Complete Your Housing Application
The housing application can be found on the Online Housing Portal.
For priority housing consideration and to participate in roommate matching and room selection processes, returning students should complete their housing application prior to March 31. 2025 and new students should complete their housing application prior to May 5, 2025.
Those who complete their application after this date will be assigned by the housing staff based on preferences in their application and availability, if any.
Need Help?
If you have any questions regarding housing, please call 978-934-5160 or e-mail the Office of Residence Life: ResLife@uml.edu.
While we no longer require a deposit, please note that there are significant penalties for cancelling your contract after the specified deadlines. Please see our Cancellation section webpage for more details.
2. Roommate Matching
Students will be able to return to their housing application to pick roommates after the priority date. Roommate Matching is optional but highly recommended, and allows students to create a profile and search for other students that share their interests or group with friends they already have at UMass Lowell. Students must be aware that other students may select or be placed into beds that your roommate group doesn't fill.
Students will only be able to see other students that they are eligible to live with based upon having a completed housing application, housing assignment gender, class year, Living Learning Communities (LLC) community participation, and visibility in the roommate matching process.
Roommate Matching Process Timelines
- April 11-16, 2025 for current upper-class students
- May 20-June 23, 2025 for incoming first-year and transfer students
Roommate Groups
A Roommate Group is a group of 2-8 students that have agreed to select their next room/suite/apartment together. Students all must agree to be part of the group and can only be part of one group at a time. Students can leave a roommate group at any time, though we recommend talking to your group first.
Roommate groups are categorized as either Small Groups or Large Groups. Small groups are roommate groups of 2-4 students. Large groups are roommate groups of 5-8 students. Large groups select earlier during room selection.
Benefits of a Roommate Group
The Housing Process is built to offer students choice and variety and actively supports larger roommate groups finding spaces they fit into, without impacting options for smaller groups and solo students. If you have multiple students you want to live with, you should form a roommate group and be aware of what residence halls can fit your group as not all residence halls offer spaces that can fit all roommate group sizes.
What Roommate Group Fits in each Residence Hall
2 Students: All residence halls except Riverview Suites East and University Suites
3 Students: All residence halls except Bourgeois Hall, Riverview Suites East and University Suites
4 Students: All residence halls except Concordia Hall
5 Students: River Hawk Village, Riverview Suites East, Sheehy Hall and University Suites
6 Students: Donahue Hall, Riverview Suites East and West, Sheehy Hall and University Suites
8 Students: Donahue and Sheehy Halls
We do not currently offer any spaces that fit exactly 7 students and recommend increasing or decreasing your roommate group to have options that fit your entire group.
3. Room Selection
You will be given a time slot that will dictate the earliest possible time when you can log in to assign yourself into available open spaces. At this time you may also pull in roommates that have been requested and confirmed. The person with earliest time slot should act as a the group representative.
Room Selection Process (LLC & non-LLC) Timelines
- April 24-29, 2025 for current upper-class students
- June 24 & 26, 2025 for incoming first-year and transfer students
Lottery Time Slot
Every student that applies for housing on or before the priority date is assigned a Lottery Time Slot. This lottery time slot will be used to determine what time the student can log in and pick a room during the room selection process. Students in roommate groups should have the student with the earliest time slot select for the group as this allows for the most choice in room selection.
Lottery time slots are randomly assigned within each class year (based on credits earned when you apply) in the following order:
- Graduate Students
- Seniors
- Juniors
- Sophomores
- Freshmen
