Fall 2024 Check-Out Information

Students should plan on completing the self-checkout process for the fall semester unless they have applied, and been approved for, Winter Break housing. Students will receive an email to their UMass Lowell accounts from the Office of Residence Life with details about the check-out procedure. This includes a different set of instructions depending on the next steps so it is important to understand which steps apply to you.

Students leaving on-campus housing and not returning after Winter Break (no winter or spring housing assignment):

  1. Students should take/remove all personal belongings from their room/suite/apartment.
  2. Students should clean their current room.
  3. Students should return any keys issued to their residence hall staff office.
  4. Students should complete a self check-out on the Online Housing Portal.
  5. Students will not have access to their room after completing the self-checkout

Students changing to a different room for the spring semester:

  1. Students should take/remove all personal belonging from their room/suite/apartment. We are not able to store belongings or provide access to your new room assignment before the spring semester beings.
  2. Students should clean their current room.
  3. Students should return any keys issued to their residence hall staff office.
  4. Students should complete a self check out on the Online Housing Portal.
  5. Students will not have access to their fall housing assignment after completing the check out.
  6. Any items left in the room will be discarded.

Students staying for Winter Break:

  1. Students need to have applied for winter break housing on the Online Housing Portal (additional costs apply)
  2. Students will be emailed regarding card/access instructions for their current room if any
  3. Students will remain in their current room for winter break unless they are changing rooms for the spring semester, in that case the housing team will provide additional information about a date/time and steps to transition into their new room assignment

Students leaving for Winter Break, but returning to their same room assignment for the spring semester:

  1. Students should take/remove all belonging from their room/suite/apartment they may need over break, rooms will not be accessible
  2. Students should clean their room of any trash or items that may attract pests
  3. Students should complete the self-checkout process on the Online Housing Portal
  4. Students will not have access to their room after completing the self-checkout
