Internships

The Theatre Arts Program offers several full-year, paid Production Internships on campus annually, on a competitive basis. To apply contact Program Director Shelley Barish.

We also regularly place students in internships and practica at professional theatres, including the Merrimack Repertory Theatre in Lowell, Bristol Valley Theatre, Berkshire Theatre Festival, and the Lyric Stage of Boston.

Partnership with Merrimack Repertory Theatre

The Theatre Arts Program is proud of our vital partnership with Lowell’s acclaimed professional theatre company, the Merrimack Repertory Theatre (MRT).

New Play Development Workshops

Each year, we host a week-long collaborative workshop of an exciting new play to be premiered at MRT. Theatre Arts students participate alongside professional actors, director, and playwright in rehearsing and developing the script-in-progress. The week culminates in a public Staged Reading of the developed script, performed by students and professionals at UMass Lowell.

Master Classes, Lectures, And Other Events

MRT artists are frequent guests on campus, offering special workshops, master classes, and lectures within our “Theatre Lives” speaker series.

Career Opportunities

UMass Lowell theatre students have gone on to careers in acting, theatre education, advertising, theatrical production on Broadway and for television, playwriting, film work, theatrical design, and graduate study.
