Playing a critical role in the university’s security efforts, the Locks & Keys department is dedicated to making the UMass Lowell campus a secure environment for learning, living and working. They are responsible for the maintenance and repair of doors, locks, keys, door closures and automatic door openers. It also works with all departments and colleges to ensure that all locks and keys work as expected and to limit the number of keys issued for each area.
Recent special projects include a new proprietary lock and key system that will enhance the university’s ability to secure rooms and buildings and ensure the integrity of assigned keys. Keys for this system can be made only by the university’s locksmith.
How You Can Help Keep UMass Lowell Safe
Keeping the UMass Lowell community safe requires everyone’s cooperation. We ask that all students, faculty and staff keep these safety steps in mind:
- Do not allow unauthorized persons to gain access to University facilities
- Do not prop doors open
- Do not provide your keys to others
- Use common sense
