Closing buildings provides significant energy savings, is best sustainability practice, and supports campus-wide initiatives. The Facilities' team goal during the holiday season is to identify and execute on opportunities for energy conservation while providing essential services for student and faculty success.
Winter Intersession typically begins at the close of business on the last full business day prior to the Christmas holiday. The university significantly reduces on-campus operations with a partial campus closure during this time with only business critical for university operations and student success, recruitment, and retention remaining active on-site. UML Facilities strategically manages campus buildings to ensure support of campus-wide initiatives and best sustainability practice until full on-site campus operations return in January to ensure a successful, vibrant start to each spring semester.
2022-2023 Winter Intersession Shutdown
Area department heads and managers will be responsible for determining assignments for employees who work during that timeUML will partially close beginning close of business on Friday, Dec. 23. All staff members not required to work to maintain critical University operations and student success, recruitment, and retention during these times are encouraged to use available vacation or personal leave time, consistent with their collective bargaining agreements or personnel policies.
- Employees who choose to work may be temporarily relocated if their office or building is being close
- All buildings will be secured and require card access
- Res Life Buildings will remain open for approved student locations only
- Beginning Tuesday, Dec. 27, certain buildings, offices and laboratories will remain open for conducting of research and Winter Intersession classes and student services
- Beginning Monday, Jan. 9, building schedules will resume normal operations
