MassTransfer Program

Students who transfer to UMass Lowell from a Massachusetts community college with a MassTransfer-approved associate degree may be eligible to participate in the MassTransfer Program*,  making it easier and more affordable to transfer that associate’s into a bachelor's earned on-campus or by enrolling in classes online.

Benefits include:

  • Application fee waiver. You may use any one of our application methods.
  • Guaranteed admission with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.500.
  • In-state tuition credit for students who have completed their MassTransfer associate degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.000 or higher. Visit the MassTransfer Tuition Credit page for more information.

If you completed college coursework during high school, you must apply as a first-year applicant.

*Students who enroll in online or evening degree programs through UMass Lowell's Division of Graduate, Online and Professional Studies are not eligible for MassTransfer tuition discount benefits. However, these students may be eligible for other benefits including scholarship opportunities specific to those interested in completing a degree online with UMass Lowell.

Commonwealth Commitment

Commonwealth Commitment participants receive a freeze on tuition and mandatory fees, as well as a 10% rebate for each semester completed with a 3.0+ GPA. To learn more about program terms and requirements, visit the Department of Higher Education website.

Reverse Transfer Program

For students who have not yet earned an associate degree, but have completed at least 30 college-level credits at a Massachusetts community college, the Reverse Transfer program enables students to apply credits earned at UMass Lowell to fulfill their associate degree requirements.
