UML String Project
UML String Project offers comprehensive string instrument instruction for students grades 3-12 in the Merrimack Valley.
The UMass Lowell String Project is a music education and community engagement initiative housed in the Department of Music that provides music instruction to students grades 3-12 from the Merrimack Valley.
The UMass Lowell String Project provides high-quality, low-cost string instrument instruction to students in grades 3-12 in the Merrimack Valley. UMass Lowell music students the opportunity to gain experience and skills required to be effective educators and community leaders.
Classes are held twice weekly and are primarily taught by the UML music students under the guidance of Lead Teacher and Executive Director, Nicole Parks. String Project students will learn technical and musical skills that will be showcased at least twice yearly. Through music education, students gain a love of performing arts and will discover how music builds positive relationships between peers and the community.
Who Are We?
The UMass Lowell String Project is a music education initiative designed to achieve four major outcomes:
- Provide high-quality, low cost string instrument instruction to students in grades 2-12.
- Encourage participants to cultivate a lifelong love of the performing arts.
- Demonstrate how music builds positive relationships with peers and the community.
- Offer UMass Lowell music students the opportunity to gain experience and skills required to be effective educators and community leaders.
The String Project is a member of the National String Project Consortium, which is composed of over 40 String Projects located at major universities around the country. In 2014, we were named "String Project of the Year" by the National String Project Consortium and the American String Teachers Association!
