Biosketch

Steven C. Sweat, M.Ed. (They/Them/Theirs) joined the Residence Life team in 2021 as the new associate director for Inclusion and Residential Leadership. Steven leads the department's charge in developing and enhancing our staff's and residents' cultural competence, educating on topics around diversity, equity, inclusion, access, belonging and justice (DEIABJ). In addition, they advise two student organizations within Residence Life: the Residence Hall Association (RHA) on advocacy and programmatic efforts and the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) on recognition and service-learning efforts. They are also a qualified administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI), which is a tool for building cultural competence and adapting behavior to cultural difference and commonalities.

Steven comes with diverse leadership experiences from Clemson University, University of Florida, Towson University, Florida International University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the New England Conservatory. Steven's personal interests include music (listening to and as a violinist), Anime, enjoying playing MMORPG video games (like Final Fantasy XIV Online) as a healer/support class, and spending quality time with their partner.
