With the launch of Research Enterprise Solutions (RES) on Jan. 29, 2024, the Sponsored Programs Module was introduced. This module includes proposal development, awards, subawards, negotiations, and Conflict of Interest (COI) activities.
System-to-System (S2S) Capabilities
As part of the tiered RES rollout, the System-to-System (S2S) application will be implemented. S2S is part of the Sponsored Programs module, and the launch date is currently under review. S2S functionality will allow UMass Lowell Principal Investigators (PIs) to attach all proposal documents in RES for Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) review and submit from RES to Grants.gov for certain federal funding opportunities. The information and attachments included in the RES proposal development record will populate the necessary forms and validate just like a Grants.gov Workspace submission. S2S through RES will provide a consistent user interface.
Protocol Module
Also on the horizon is the Protocol Module managed by the Office of Research Integrity. This module is specific to institutional compliance elements like Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and Export Control. The launch date for the Protocols Module is currently under review but will significantly improve the workflow through automatic routing for review and approvals, making committee reviews more efficient, and providing post protocol submission transparency. The use of the RES smart forms will create an overall better user experience by dynamically guiding and prompting users on how to complete required. Additionally. RES will provide notifications for expirations and stage of protocol review. Users will have access to all necessary approvals as well as an activity log which can be helpful for document version control or reference.
Future State
RES can integrate with a variety of systems and has the ability to adapt to future needs. As the University’s research enterprise continues to grow, future integrations can be built to pull information or push information into RES.
This will be an evolving process under continuous review that will be tweaked as we use the system.
**Updates will be posted here, on the Future RES Offering webpage, and the Sponsored Programs Announcements page, as they become available.
