Our campus is proud to have a textile recycling/donation bin conveniently located adjacent to the East Campus Garage, next to the Amazon Locker. In November 2022, Massachusetts implemented a ban on disposing of textiles in the trash to address the significant environmental impact of textile waste. Textiles (clothing, footwear, bedding, curtains, fabric scraps, etc.) often end up in landfills, where they contribute to pollution and waste valuable resources.

This ban aims to reduce the amount of waste and promote recycling and repurposing of textiles. Even items that are worn, torn, or stained can be donated and given a new life through recycling programs. By using our campus bin, you're not only complying with state regulations but also helping to conserve resources and reduce landfill waste. For more information on where to recycle or donate textiles, visit the state of Massachsuetts' Clothing and Textile Recovery website.

What Happens to My Donation?

Once Bay State Textiles collect your donation, they are sent to a grading facility and sorted into three main categories:

  • 20% is converted into fiber and used as insulation, car seat stuffing, etc.
  • 30% are cut into recycled wiping rags

Only 5% ends up as waste.
