Tuition/Operating Fees: (covered by Exchange Agreement, No Cost to Student)

Calculated based on 24 undergraduate credit hours (4 classes/semester) at an estimated value of approximately $36,264. The estimate was obtained from the Out of State Charges webpage. Please note that Continuing Education courses (listed as ‘CE’ session type on the SiS Class Search Catalog) are not part of the tuition waiver exchange agreement.


The total financial documentation required to receive your DS-2019 for the 2024-2025 school year is $21,350.

Housing & Meal Plan: $18,714*

Exchange Students are strongly recommended to live on-campus. Off-campus housing is limited and assistance is by referral network only. To learn more please visit the UMass Lowell office of Residence Life website.

*The above rate is based on the Rate 3 Residence Hall & Unlimited Meal Plan (meal plan required if living on-campus). Full housing and meal plan rate options can be viewed on the My Bill section of the Solution Center website.

Health Insurance: $2,636*

All international students are REQUIRED to purchase the university student health insurance as authorized under the insurance laws for higher education students in Massachusetts (section 3.05(2) or MGL 114.6). College/Department Fees

Certain colleges and departments charge fees in order to provide resources for college/department specific expenses not supported by the operating fee such as supplies and equipment used in introductory and higher level courses, maintenance and upgrade of laboratories and other college facilities, software licenses and other curriculum related costs. Visa Requirements

Exchange Students must provide financial documentation as listed above in order to apply for the J- 1 Exchange Visitor Visa. We also recommend students be prepared to show an additional $6,000, this cost will not be listed on the Form DS-2019, but it is understood that the student will come prepared with funding in addition to the cost of housing to pay for their personal living expenses (books, recreational activities, etc.).

Additionally, there is a SEVIS fee of $220, which must be paid prior to meeting with the U.S. embassy. Accepted students will receive details on how to pay this fee.
