Detailed Notice About Possession and Use of Narcotics in the United States
Immigration law treats all marijuana or other illegal substance activity as a crime. Possession, use, and/or admission of marijuana use (legal or illegal) or any other illegal substance by persons who are not US Citizens (e.g. legal permanent residents, international visa holders, undocumented individuals, etc.) can result in harsh immigration consequences such as: revocation of status, deportation, denial of entry into the US, and inability to obtain future immigration benefits.
Note: all ports of entry into the US, including international terminals at airports, are on federal property where immigration laws are strictly enforced.
Possession of any illegal substance, including Marijuana, is also prohibited on the UMass Lowell campus. Customs routinely checks for Marijuana and other illegal substances at the Port of Entry or during any air travel within the U.S.
Customs also checks Electronic Devices, please refer to the U.S. Customs and Border Protections: Inspection of Electronic Devices guidelines (pdf) for further details.
