What is the HANS 2 Study?

The HANS 2 Study is a 3-year observational research study examining the relationship between aging, physical activity, falls, and the outdoor environment.

What are the eligibility requirements?

To be eligible for this study you must be 65 years of age or older and live within Worcester, Middlesex, or Essex Counties in Massachusetts. One of our team members will contact you to determine your eligibility.

How long is participation in the HANS 2 Study?

This is a three-year observational study with visits from HANS study staff every 6 months. This type of study does not have an intervention or blood work.

Do participants have to travel for data collection?

Participation is convenient. Staff are able to meet you for your study visit at your home, at our offices in Lowell, Leominster or Worcester, wherever you prefer.

What will happen during study visits?

During the visits, a field team member will collect physical measurement and you will complete survey questions. Participants will wear devices to measure physical activity intensity and location for 10 days at some of your visits.

What are the benefits of being involved in the HANS 2 Study?

Your participation will help us to gain knowledge and better understand the activity-related risk for falls and develop prevention approaches to reduce the likelihood of falls. Compensation will be provided.

Who is conducting the study visits?

One of our field team members will conduct each study visit.
