Dean Mary Gallant of the Zuckerberg College of Health Sciences

I was delighted to join the College as its dean in September 2023. When I arrived, I was immediately and warmly welcomed into a diverse community of students, staff and faculty who are passionate about Zuckerberg College and improving the health of people and their communities. If you are thinking about attending UMass Lowell, I hope to welcome you as a member of our community.

Whether you are interested in helping people be healthy, combining health and business, impacting health through lab work, being a healthcare administrator, advancing your nursing career, or informing public policy, our degree programs will help you reach your goals.

We offer a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs that will prepare you with the knowledge and skills that are needed in the healthcare and public health workforce today and in the future.

High Quality Education with Practical Experiences

Our Health Sciences Hub is a dedicated space that provides students with a one-stop shop for all the resources to help you succeed. And our impressive licensing exam pass rates, high graduation rates and job placements demonstrate that our students gain a high quality education with in-demand skills.

As a student here, you will also have great opportunities to put the skills you learn into practice. Our students have multiple opportunities for internships, clinical experiences and paid opportunities to work in their chosen field during their program.

These experiences prepare you as a very competitive candidate for jobs in your field when you graduate. Several of our undergraduate degree options also provide great foundations for future careers in medicine or other health professions. And our research-based degrees will give you the opportunity to be involved in cutting-edge research as you start your own research career.

Meaningful Research for a Healthier World

Our enthusiastic faculty and staff are dedicated to student success, innovative teaching and research that improves physical and mental health as well as solving some of the most pressing challenges in health care and public health today. For example, our faculty are answering important questions about how:

  • The gut microbiome influences brain health
  • Using robots and gaming technologies help people with neurological disorders
  • To prevent childhood obesity
  • Diet, stress and exercise impact heart disease
  • To improve health outcomes among people with HIV
  • To reduce the use of toxic chemicals

These examples represent just a fraction of the exciting research projects that students can get involved in and that ensure that our programs are focused on current developments in each discipline.

I invite you to look around our website to learn more about our programs and our current students and faculty and contact us with questions or for more information. Better yet, take advantage of one of our opportunities to visit campus and see for yourself what a great place this is to pursue or continue your education in health sciences and public health. I hope you will join us in our quest to make the world a healthier place.

Sincerely,

Dean Mary Gallant
