Admissions standards and admissions requirements are terms that often used interchangeably, but they have slightly differ meanings. Admission standards are the criteria that UMass Lowell uses to evaluate applicants. However, different programs may have different admissions requirements.
Standardized Tests
Most doctoral and some master’s degree programs at UMass Lowell will require you to submit the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) ot the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Test score requirements can be waived for almost all master's degree programs. Please complete the appropriate waiver form:

Accepted Tests Proving English Proficiency:
A test demonstrating English proficiency must be provided by students from countries where English is not the national language.
The thresholds for English tests are set by each academic department. You may complete any of the following English proficiency tests:
- TOEFL
- TOEFL IBT Home Edition
- IELTS
- Duolingo
- PTE Academic
- ASC English School - Level 6 is required by all academic departments.
Official test scores must be sent directly by the testing agency to the Office of Graduate Admissions.
- UMass Lowell's school code is 3911.
- Physical Therapy applicants, Please use the following code for PTCAS applications: 1329.
- Engineering applicants, the GRE school code 4530 to submit scores through EngineeringCAS.
- International engineering applicants: Please have ETS send your TOEFL scores to the EngineeringCAS, School Code: B887. You may also self-report your scores. If you have taken the IELTS you may self-report your scores on the application.
