Join us! Take a look at all of the official student group websites on campus. The English Department sponsors the Literary Society, Sigma Tau Delta, The Off-Broadway Players and The Connector.
The Department and many of our student groups can also be found on Facebook. Department events will be posted on each of the Facebook group sites.
The Literary Society / The Offering
The Literary Society publishes the annual campus literary magazine, "The Offering," which features poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and visual art submitted by UMass Lowell students, alumni, staff and faculty. Student members may apply for editorial positions on the magazine, announced each fall. Anyone in the UMass Lowell (UML) community may submit work for consideration, with submissions open generally from November 1 to February 15, and the magazine appearing in print in April. The club keeps students informed of literary activities on campus through Collegiate Link and its Literary Society Facebook page.
For more information, or to request submission guidelines, email: offering@uml.edu, read The Offering or contact Professors: Maggie Dietz (email: Margaret_Dietz@uml.edu) or Sandra Lim (email: Sandra_Lim@uml.edu), the club advisors.
Sigma Tau Delta
Sigma Tau Delta is the official English Department Honor Society. The group is led by our students, who design and sponsor events (including book swaps, reading groups, and social activities) and also co-sponsor events with the department and other student organizations.
If you are interested in learning more about becoming a member, you may contact English Department Professors Bridget Marshall (email: Bridget_Marshall@uml.edu) or Matt Hurwitz (email: Matthew_Hurwitz@uml.edu) for more information.
The Off-Broadway Players
The Off-Broadway Players is the student theater group at UMass Lowell. For more information, contact OBP@uml.edu or faculty advisor Rae Mansfield: Rae_Mansfield@uml.edu for more information.
The Connector
The Connector is a completely student-run newspaper, covering events and stories relating to the UMass Lowell community. The Connector currently has four main sections: news, arts and entertainment, sports, and campus life, and we accept opinion letters from members of the UMass Lowell community. The newspaper is constantly looking for interested writers, photographers, designers, businesspeople, computer experts, video-making gurus, and more.
For information about joining The Connector, please visit the newspaper's student organization page.
