- 2016: Association for Public Land-Grant Universities (APLU) – UMass Lowell named one of six finalists for Innovation and Economic Prosperity Universities Award
- 2015: Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching - UMass Lowell received this ten-year designation, which is considered the gold-standard system for measuring the service universities provide to their local communities. UMass is one of two systems nationally honored for community engagement.

- 2008: Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching - The university has been honored with a prestigious national honor as a "community-engaged" university (a five-year designation). The Carnegie Designation ranks UMass Lowell among the nation's top institutions in the benefits conferred to the world outside its walls.
