Definitions

Honors Sections

Sections of courses that are dedicated for honors students are noted with a section number that begins with “3,” e.g. PHYS.4170 - 301 or HIST.3932 - 301. Non-honors students may register for these sections only with instructor permission.

Honors-By-Contract

Honors-By-Contract is an agreement between an honors student, an instructor, and the Honors College whereby the student agrees to take on additional, honors-level work as it pertains to the class. Honors students will only receive honors credit for an honors-by-contract at the 3000 or 4000 level.

Honors Ready

The Honors Ready designation allows courses to be taught as mixed sections of honors and non-honors students. The instructor prepares an honors component for the course including one or more of the honors learning outcomes before the semester starts and honors students in the course that complete the honors component receive honors credit. Honors Ready courses may be offered at any level from 1000 to 4000.
