World Languages & Cultures Major

Major

The Department of World Languages and Cultures offers a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in World Languages and Cultures that allows students to pursue one of the following options:

  • French Option
  • French/Italian Option
  • French/Spanish Option
  • Italian/Spanish Option
  • Portuguese/Spanish Option
  • Spanish Option

In each of these major pathways, students learn about the complex cultural, historical, intellectual, multimedia and artistic traditions that their language(s) of specialization both influence and draw from. They professionally develop their own language and critical thinking abilities in writing, speaking, listening, and reading, drawing from a diverse range of disciplines and international approaches.

Our majors have opportunities in the United States and internationally that are only available to those with multilingual and multicultural competencies. These include service-learning projects and study abroad programs that develop students’ professional contacts while providing invaluable experiences.

Some of our majors combine their specializations with other majors such as Psychology, History, Criminal Justice, Digital Media, Nursing, and English. World Languages & Cultures majors access different professional associations, complete original research, and connect with international colleagues and traditions. These opportunities lead to higher paying positions in different communities and organizations.
