ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM ON TEACHING & LEARNING

During this exceptionally busy academic year, the Symposium on Teaching and Learning joined up with the Faculty Research Symposium for the wonderful 2017 Faculty Symposium on Teaching, Learning, Research & Creative Works. On March 2, 2017, the ICC was abuzz with lightning talks on both teaching and research, with the celebration of Faculty Awards for Teaching Excellence, a panel featuring the 2016 Pedagogy Mini-Grant recipients, and a keynote by 2016 Manning Prize winner Steven Pennell, Ph.D. who shared his “Reflections of a Reluctant Teacher.”  

TRANSFORMATIONAL TUESDAYS/TRANSFORMATIONAL TALKS

From Fall 2014 – Spring 2016, the Committee on Transformational Education hosted this engaging discussion series. Faculty from across campus came together for a series of small, informal talks on diverse topics, including Mentoring Undergraduate and Graduate Students to Complete Theses, Managing Behavior for Productive Learning, Making the Most of Student Evaluations, Using Primary Sources in Your Teaching, and more.

Advising Week

Advising Week (pdf) - In Spring 2015, Transformational Education hosted a week of workshops where academic advisers got information and tips, and shared their questions, experiences, and strategies for transformational advising!

Deborah Myer delivered the keynote at XIX Symposium on Educational Research and Practice.

Teaching by Design: Assignments, Assessment, Achievement

The University of Massachusetts Lowell and Middlesex Community College hosted this day-long Summer Institute on June 19, 2014, led by national assessment expert Peggy Maki. This day of professional development provided faculty with an opportunity to share, reflect upon, and renew their pedagogical strategies.

Active Learning Presentation

Eric Mazur, Ph.D., spoke at the Active Learning Presentation. Faculty members discussed their pedagogical uses of the flipped classroom and classroom response systems. The event was co-sponsored by the Committee on Transformational Education and Turning Technologies.
