In the Biomedical and Nutritional Sciences Department, faculty work regionally and nationally with organizations such as Westford House Genesis Eldercare, Avis Goodwin Community Health Center, Massachusetts Coalition for Occupational Safety and Health, and the American Society for Clinical Pathology.

Service Learning

Students enrolled in the Clinical Laboratory or Medical Laboratory Science options spend a portion of their junior and senior years working directly under the supervision of practicing laboratory personnel at some of the following placement sites:

The Nutritional Sciences Program has established local and regional community partnerships to engage collaboratively in learning and research activities. Nutritional Sciences faculty are dedicated to developing and maintaining long-term partnerships that are meaningful, mutually beneficial and respectful, and that support shared interests and goals for improving the health of local communities. Building trust in research and academic-community partnerships is a priority of the Nutritional Sciences Program. 

Community Partners

Nutritional Sciences faculty members collaborate with community members and organizations in the Greater Lowell, Greater Lawrence and Greater Boston areas to plan, implement, and evaluate research programs to address community health needs. Together, Nutritional Science faculty and community partners, identify health priority areas of the community, study important nutrition-related health questions and design, implement and evaluate innovative dietary behavior change interventions with the common goal of improving the health of community members.

Students enrolled in the undergraduate Nutritional Science Major and/or the Master of Public Health in Nutritional Sciences or Dietetics have the option to participate in experiential learning opportunities and/or community-engaged research under the supervision of faculty.
