Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,
The decision by President Trump to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in six months stands in direct opposition to the core values of UMass Lowell and our commitment to fairness and justice, especially for those who are most vulnerable.I proudly join UMass President Marty Meehan and the other chancellors in a jointly signed statement in support of DACA.
In so many instances, the contributions to our society from these young men and women represent the best of the United States. Our nation is made weaker by a decision that creates fear, uncertainty and anxiety for U.S. residents who entered this country as children, many of whom have only known life in the United States of America.
At today’s Convocation I had the honor to welcome new students to UMass Lowell. I spoke about the importance of our culture of inclusion and am hopeful that River Hawk values will prevail as this nation decides whether it will support all members of our communities.
At UMass Lowell we will do all we can to ensure any students who are impacted are aware of the resources available to them. A website with links to important immigration information is available here.
This is an issue that will only be solved by an act of Congress. I will be a strong advocate for a legislative solution in the months ahead that ensures young people are able to live and work in the country that is their home.
Sincerely,
Jacqueline F. Moloney
