Research Interests
We use bioinformatics and genomic approaches to study properties of the genome and how the environment influences biodiversity and genome evolution. We are currently studying the evolution of novel and duplicated genes, and the genomic and epigenomic mechanisms regulating them. We are interested in how new genes contribute to species diversity and adaptations.
Our lab also uses metagenomics approaches to characterize microbial communities as surveillance tools as well as to determine host-microbiome interactions.
