Research Interests

Steven Tello’s research interests include technology innovation, business incubation, student entrepreneurship and technology-facilitated management education. He has published in a number of prestigious business journals and has raised over $7 million in foundation, federal and state grant funds to support campus educational and economic development efforts.

Biosketch

Steven Tello is a tenured associate professor in the Manning School of Business, where he founded the university’s undergraduate entrepreneurship program and the interdisciplinary MS in Innovation and Technological Entrepreneurship.

Tello served as Vice Provost for Graduate, Online & Professional Studies, where he directed the reorganization of graduate recruitment and admission, continuing education and online programming into a new strategic division, contributing to the growth of online, international and graduate student enrollments prior to and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tello brings a deep history of success as a faculty member, administrator and leader at UMass Lowell. He has been instrumental in many of the university's successes of the past decade, including the rapid growth of the Massachusetts Medical Device Development Center (M2D2) and the Innovation Hub business incubators, student DifferenceMaker program, River Hawk Venture Fund and the annual Deshpande Symposium.

Tello began his career at the university in 1996, in the Division of Continuing Education, where he led the design and development of the University’s highly successful online education program. Following his appointment as a member of the Manning School faculty, and service as senior associate vice chancellor, Tello returned to his roots, overseeing the growth and development of the university’s online and graduate programs.
