Applicants and Entering Students
Financial support is generally not available to newly-arriving students. There is no form for applying for it. We occasionally contact a newly-arriving student who has extraordinary credentials to offer financial support, but it is very rare for us to do so. If you do not hear from us, we do not have support to offer you.
Current Students
Teaching Assistantships - The Department has a very limited number of teaching assistantships. They are awarded on a competitive basis to current graduate students who have been in the program for at least one year and who have demonstrated exceptional scholarship, communication ability, integrity, and dependability. Preference is given to doctoral students.
Research Assistantships - Research assistantships may be available through funded research programs in the departmental laboratories. Professors generally do not hire research assistants whom they do not know. If you want to work in a professor's lab, the best approach is to take a class with him or her and then volunteer to work on a project in the lab. If the professor is impressed by your abilities, interest, integrity, and diligence, and if the professor has an assistantship available, you may find yourself an eligible candidate for it.
ISET Research Schorlaships - ISET Research Scholarships are need-based scholarships for students doing research with a faculty mentor. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents. See the ISET Research Scholar webpage.
