The Computer Science Department participates in the UMass Lowell UPrint initiative. There is a UPrint enabled printer in each of the three computer labs (Olsen 308, 310, 314). Following are some common questions:
- How do I print from Windows or Mac OS X?
- How do I print my C program (or other text / postscript files) from the LINUX command line?
- How do I print from Open Office or other graphical linux programs when using the linux workstations?
- Should I use recycled paper in the printer?
- What should I do about the jammed printer?
- Where do I get more paper?
- How do I print from Windows or Mac OS X?
-
To print to the HP printers in Olsen 308 and 314 from Windows or OS X use this printer queue: HP_BW_NORTH
To print to the Xerox printer in Olsen 310 from Windows or OS X use this printer queue: XEROX_BW_NORTH
Once your job is queued, use your UCard to release the job at the release station next to the printer.
- How do I print my C program (or other text / postscript files) from the LINUX command line?
-
To print the text file "hello.c" to the HP printer in Olsen 308 or Olsen 314:
lpr -P HP_BW_NORTH -U student-id# hello.c
To print the text file "hello.c" to the Xerox printer in Olsen 310:
lpr -P XEROX_BW_NORTH -U student-id# hello.c
Once your job is queued, use your UCard to release the job at the release station next to the printer.
- How do I print from Open Office or other graphical linux programs when using the linux workstations?
-
Only the printer in Olsen 308 can be printed to from linux gui (graphical) applications.
When using a linux application's print option, choose the os308gui print queue name.
Release your job by swiping your ID card at the LINUX GUI ONLY print station in Olsen 308.
- Should I use recycled paper in the printer?
-
No. For every tree you save by re-using paper you will kill 10 more in paper jams. If the printer needs paper, go to Olsen 312 and ask for assistance or email help AT cs.uml.edu
- What should I do about the jammed printer?
-
Let the administrators in OS312 know there is a problem. Please do not try to unjam the printer yourself.
- Where do I get more paper?
-
Go to Olsen 312 and ask for assistance. If nobody is in Olsen 312, email help AT cs.uml.edu.
