Marybeth Slack is a recent graduate of Grove City College where she worked with Professor Lisa Antoszewski studying epigenetic control of DNA replication and cellular proliferation. While working in the lab she performed forward genetic screens using Drosophila melanogaster to identify cancer related genes. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Applied Biology at UMass Lowell while working in the Lee Lab studying epigenetics, development and longevity in C. elegans. Her research examines chromatin structure, and heritable changes in chromatin, which have been shown to significantly impact the lifespan of C. elegans. She is currently studying the correlation between heritable chromatin structure and its impact on gene expression.

Marybeth is also collaborating with Assistant Professor Sarah Gignoux-Wolfsohn’s lab to assess current environmental effects on oysters from an epigenetic approach. She is excited to work with Gignoux-Wolfsohn in developing this new project and working towards positive environmental impact.
