Biosketch
Kim England is the Harry Bridges Endowed Chair of Labor Studies and Professor of Geography at the University of Washington in Seattle. She is the Director of the university’s Harry Bridges Center for Labor Studies and is affiliated with a number of other units, including Gender, Women and Sexuality Studies. England's research addresses labor, migration, critical social policy and inequalities, usually in urban North America. In recent years this has involved investigating various aspects of the globalization of care work and the experience of care workers and the ways these knit together the restructuring of care provision at the federal, state and local government levels with international migration and the home as a workplace. England is currently researching these ideas in projects examining the migration flows of care workers, domestic workers’ activism and the workplace rights of home care workers, cleaners and nannies. She is participating with community groups, unions and government officials in Seattle and Washington State who work on legislation to improve the working conditions of domestic workers in the region.
