Research Interests
Clinical Microbiology; Safe Disinfection.
My laboratory is focused on evaluating safer approaches to disinfection ("green" or low toxicity disinfectants.) Safer approaches include saturated steam vapor, activated water, thymol and other plant-derived chemicals, and do-it-yourself approaches using household products such as vinegar. We have particular interest in "real world" performance, including common errors made by users who don't follow the manufacturers' direction. We are also investigating the impact of wiping materials and cleaning methods on disinfection.
