Decision Models for Foreclosing Housing Acquisition and Redevelopment
Decision Models for Foreclosing Housing Acquisition and Redevelopment is a National Science Foundation funded collaborative project among researchers at UMass Amherst, UMass Boston and UMass Lowell. This project aims to examine the efforts by community-based organizations that acquire foreclosed properties to stabilize and revitalize neighborhoods. This project seeks to solve the following decision problems:
- What subset of a large number of available foreclosed properties should be acquired by these organizations for neighborhood stabilization and revitalization?
- What activities should be pursued with which properties?
- When should these activities be pursued, and to what degree?
The research team will learn best practices of Massachusetts community-based organizations, identify requirements for decision models to improve organizational effectiveness and strategies, design and implement decision models in collaboration with community partners, and evaluate the impact of these models on partner organizations and the communities they serve.
