Biosketch
Darcie Boyer, Center Manager for the Center for Community Research and Engagement, is a graduate of UMass Lowell’s master’s program in Regional Economic and Social Development and served for 16 years as the Center Manager for the Center for Women & Work. Her research has focused on the importance of including community members in decision making and planning for public transportation policy decisions.
Prior to her work at the Center for Women & Work, Darcie was a community organizer with the Coalition for a Better Acre, working to ensure that the voice of residents in Lowell’s poorest and most diverse neighborhood were heard and respected in the decisions that impacted their lives and community.
Darcie lives in Lowell with her family and is active in organizing efforts in the city. She is a founding member of two local grassroots organizations, Lowell Education Justice Alliance (LEJA), a group of parents, teachers, students and community allies working to protect and improve our public schools; and Lifting Lowellians in Assistance and Mutual Aid (LLAMA), a mutual aid organization of neighbors helping neighbors that formed at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic that fosters the spirit of cooperation and collaboration, in order to build a Lowell that is equitable, accessible, and just.
