Once again, UMass Lowell's online education programs ranked well in U.S. News & World Report's annual survey of the best in higher education.

Fourteen of UMass Lowell’s online graduate and professional programs are once again ranked among the top in the nation according to the 2025 U.S. News & World Report ranking released this month.

“UMass Lowell is proud to be recognized for its commitment to delivering high quality online education programs,” said Nancy Ludwig, dean of Graduate, Online & Professional Studies. “Providing opportunities for adult learners, working professionals, and veterans and members of our military to advance their careers conveniently and affordably is at the heart of UMass Lowell’s mission.” 

Highlights from U.S. News & World Report’s rankings include:

  • UMass Lowell’s online master’s in criminal justice is ranked No. 3 in the U.S. (No. 2 for veterans).
  • UMass Lowell’s online master’s programs in education were ranked No. 9 in the nation.
  • UMass Lowell’s online MBA program is ranked No. 33, up from No. 42 last year, and the top-ranked program in Greater Boston.
  • UMass Lowell’s online graduate business programs (excluding MBA) are ranked No. 19 in the U.S. (No. 12 for veterans).
  • UMass Lowell’s online master’s in information technology is ranked No. 26 in the U.S. (No. 12 for veterans).
  • U.S. News & World Report also singled out UMass Lowell’s online bachelor’s degree programs for praise.

An estimated 1,450 military-connected students attend UMass Lowell, both on campus and online, many while deployed at locations around the world. The university’s commitment to affordability and accessibility are reflected in the high rankings for veterans that UMass Lowell consistently earns.

All of UMass Lowell’s online programs – which see more than 42,000 enrollments annually – are accredited and recognized for delivering the same high-quality learning experience as the university’s on-campus programs. UMass Lowell is nationally and internationally recognized for educational quality by organizations including the Online Learning Consortium, UPCEA and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
