UMass Lowell is one of the state’s most successful organizations run by a woman. The university ranks first in the education sector and No. 11 overall in The Women’s Edge 2024 Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Massachusetts.
This marks the eighth consecutive year UMass Lowell has been named among the top 20 and the second straight year for Chancellor Julie Chen, who has led the Lowell campus since 2022.
“UMass Lowell’s impact is felt in the opportunities we help create for everyone we engage,” Chen said. “From our students and alumni who are driving economic growth in the Commonwealth to our faculty, researchers and industry partners who are advancing knowledge, providing career-connected opportunities for our students and creating a critical mass around high-tech industries that are drawing jobs to Lowell and the Merrimack Valley. I am grateful to The Women’s Edge for recognizing the future we are building in Lowell.”
Taken together, the 100 companies on this list represent a total revenue and operating budget of $124 billion, according to the findings. To determine the rankings, The Women’s Edge, a nonprofit that supports female business leaders, examined 2023 revenue or operating budgets for each listed organization, along with the number of full-time employees in the state, workplace and management diversity, and innovative projects.
Results of the annual compilation, which is a partnership with The Boston Globe, were announced Friday, Nov. 1, at a celebratory breakfast at Boston Marriott Copley Place.
