New U.S. News & World Report Rankings Give High Marks to University

LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell’s online education programs are among the best in the nation, according to new rankings released today by U.S. News & World Report, which assessed more than 1,600 programs nationwide.
UMass Lowell’s online graduate program in criminal justice is No. 3 in the nation and the top-ranked among all colleges and universities in New England, according to the new ranking. UMass Lowell’s online graduate program in information technology is No. 13 in the nation and is the highest ranked among all public institutions in New England.
UMass Lowell’s online graduate programs in education are ranked No. 15 nationally and highest among New England colleges and universities. UMass Lowell offers multiple options in the field, including education administration, curriculum and instruction, leadership in schooling, and reading and language.
Online graduate programs in business, including the MBA, offered by UMass Lowell are also among the highest-ranking in the nation and the region. Nationally, UMass Lowell’s online MBA is No. 22 and it is the top-ranked in New England. Among the top 22 in the nation, UMass Lowell's program is the most affordable. The university’s online graduate programs in accounting, business analytics and finance are No. 26 in the nation and are the highest-ranked programs in Massachusetts.
UMass Lowell’s online graduate program in engineering is the highest-ranked among public institutions in New England and is No. 58 in the nation.
The university’s online bachelor’s degree programs – which include subjects from business and English to engineering, health sciences and criminal justice – are ranked No. 29 in the nation overall and second-highest among New England public institutions. In addition, UMass Lowell works directly with businesses to advance employees’ skills through programs targeted to their needs.
“These new rankings are another example of the high quality and return on investment students in our online programs receive, just as their on-campus counterparts do,” said UMass Lowell Chancellor Jacquie Moloney, who founded the university’s online program more than 20 years ago and is an internationally recognized leader in the field.
All of UMass Lowell’s online programs – which see more than 30,000 enrollments annually – are accredited and offered through the same high-quality academic departments as on-campus degree programs. Online students are connected to a brick-and-mortar institution, one of the top 100 public universities in the nation, and have access to a broad range of support in-person and online designed to meet their unique needs.
