Legal Issues for Entrepreneurs Explored at Free Workshop
When and where: Wednesday, March 13, 5:30 to 8 p.m. UMass Lowell Innovation Hub, Harbor Place, 2 Merrimack St., Haverhill
What: If you’re a startup business owner, is it better to be a corporation or a limited-liability corporation? Should you hire employees, only contractors or both? And, do you need a patent to protect your intellectual property? Experts from the law firm of Foley & Lardner LLP will offer the answers to these questions and more at a free workshop open to the public. The event is the latest in the 2019 Entrepreneur Development Series presented by the UMass Lowell Innovation Hub at the university’s Haverhill campus. Graduate Open House Welcomes Prospective River Hawks
When and where: Saturday, March 23, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. University Crossing, 220 Pawtucket St., Lowell
What: Prospective students including working professionals who are interested in pursuing a UMass Lowell graduate degree are invited to an open house to meet with university representatives about on-campus and online programs. UMass Lowell offers 42 master’s and 36 doctoral degrees, and 70 graduate certificate programs that are available in person, online or in a format that combines both options. UMass Lowell’s programs are nationally accredited and highly ranked for quality and return on investment by U.S. News & World Report and PayScale.com, among others. ‘Mothers of Rock’ Concert Salutes Women in the Music Industry
When and where: Sunday, March 24, 7:30 p.m. Durgin Hall, South Campus, 35 Wilder St., Lowell
What: Hit songs made famous by women musicians including Taylor Swift, Beyonce and Jessie J. will be among those performed by UMass Lowell students and members of the community at the “Mothers of Rock” concert to benefit the after-school programs at Girls Inc. of Lowell. The annual event is presented by the UMass Lowell chapter of the Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association (MEISA), which provides members with real-world experience and networking opportunities in the business. The concert is free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted at the door. Free parking will be available in the nearby Wilder Lot.
‘A Pitch of her Own’ Brings Together Women Entrepreneurs
When and where: Monday, March 25, 6 to 8 p.m. UMass Lowell Innovation Hub, 110 Canal St., Lowell. Rescheduled from Monday, March 4
What: Women entrepreneurs will share their concepts for new products and businesses at “A Pitch of Her Own,” a free program open to the public and campus community. Eight of the event’s participants will go on to showcase their ideas and compete for prizes before a panel of expert judges. The event is presented by the UMass Lowell Innovation Hub business incubator and Entrepreneurship for All (EforAll), a community organization launched through the university with initial funding from the Deshpande Foundation to cultivate the business ecosystem in Lowell and Lawrence.
