When: Tuesday, June 19. Keynote speakers at 8:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
What: A top executive with the publisher of the “Harry Potter” and “The Hunger Games” book series and a popular TV meteorologist will headline UMass Lowell’s sold-out 2018 Women’s Leadership Conference.
“The Power and Potential of Women” will unite more than 300 women professionals in business, education, government and the nonprofit sector to share strategies on advancing their careers and enhancing their personal lives.
Entrepreneurship, mentoring, management and workplace culture are among the topics of sessions that will feature more than 30 expert speakers, including UMass Lowell faculty in business, economics and psychology.
Linda Gadsby is the vice president and deputy general counsel for Scholastic Inc., the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books and a leader in educational materials. Gadsby oversees legal matters for the company’s Education, Book Fairs and National Service Organization divisions. She will deliver the afternoon keynote address at 2:30 p.m., which will focus on effective ways women can manage their careers and participate in community volunteer work.
Danielle Niles, a UMass Lowell graduate, is a familiar face to TV viewers throughout the region as the meteorologist on WBZ-TV’s morning and noon news broadcasts. She was previously on New England Cable News and before her television career, the Weymouth native worked for Weather Services International in Andover. Niles graduated in 2006 with a degree in atmospheric science from UMass Lowell, where she served as the captain of the women’s varsity soccer team. She will give the morning keynote address at 8:45 a.m., sharing why she wanted to become a meteorologist, how she broke into television and her experiences with mentors who have helped her along the way.
Speakers will also include UMass Lowell Chancellor Jacquie Moloney, a pioneer in online learning and nationally recognized innovator in the field of higher education who founded the conference in 2015. She has more than 30 years of experience at UMass Lowell, which is ranked No. 4 among the Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Massachusetts.
