Latest Milestone Continues to Fuel Campus Growth
10/10/2018
MEDIA ADVISORY
WHEN: Thursday, Oct. 11, 11 a.m.
WHERE: Dandeneau Hall, second-floor lounge, North Campus, 1 University Ave., Lowell
WHAT: UMass Lowell will celebrate the latest milestone in its campus transformation with the opening of the newly renovated Dandeneau Hall at an event for the university community.
Thanks to alumnus James Dandeneau and his family – which also includes wife Deb, daughter Lauren and son Ryan, a 2010 UMass Lowell graduate – the building is now home to state-of-the art computer and robotics labs for students and space for engineering and computer science faculty.
A graduate of UMass Lowell’s plastics engineering program, James Dandeneau of Dayville, Conn., is founder, president and CEO of Putnam Plastics, which makes catheter assemblies and other medical devices.
The event will include the dedication of the new Shulman Library on the building’s fourth floor at 11:30 a.m. The space is named in honor of alumnus David Shulman ’85, ’87, of Bellevue Wash., senior software engineer and development lead at Microsoft Corp. Shulman received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UMass Lowell’s computer science program.
UMass Lowell students from Brockton, Dracut, Dighton, Lowell, Natick and Waltham, who are recipients of either the Dandeneau Family Scholarship or Shulman Award for Excellence in Computer Science, will participate. Speakers will include UMass Lowell Chancellor Jacquie Moloney, Kennedy College of Sciences Dean Noureddine Melikechi, James Dandeneau and Shulman.
Dandeneau Hall’s transformation stems from UMass Lowell’s commitment to growing its infrastructure. Since 2007, the university has invested more than $600 million in construction and acquisitions and has opened 14 new properties since 2009, including six in just a year’s time. They include new academic and research facilities, residence halls and student centers.
