UMass Lowell is No. 4 among the Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Massachusetts, according to a new ranking announced today. The top college or university on the list, UMass Lowell is positioned ahead of institutions such as Harvard University (No. 7), Bentley University (No. 8) and Worcester Polytechnic Institute (No. 49).
It is the first time the university, which is led by Chancellor Jacquie Moloney, has made the list. The recognition from The Commonwealth Institute (TCI), in partnership with The Boston Globe Magazine, honors the top 100 of the thousands of organizations led by women executives in private and nonprofit organizations.
Among UMass Lowell’s achievements:
- Ranked among the Top 100 public universities in the nation
- Named New England's fastest-growing public doctoral university
- Spurred economic impact approaching $1 billion annually
- 93,000 alumni, 56,000 living in Massachusetts
- Grown faculty and staff diversity 75% since 2010
- Appointed women in more than half of senior leadership roles
“UMass Lowell is successful because of the culture all of our employees have built and continue to strengthen,” said Moloney, a two-time graduate of UMass Lowell who was named chancellor in 2015. “Our achievements have been made possible by the commitment to excellence by faculty, staff and students on campus, as well as the support of our alumni and friends around the world.”
The Top 100 ranking was announced at a breakfast honoring the winning organizations today. It will be published in the Sunday, Oct. 29 edition of Boston Globe Magazine and is available online at http://bit.ly/2gHBWke.
