Abstract: In this talk, I will zoom out and look at the major resource flows across sectors in the global economy, and explore how biomass and low-carbon electricity could be scaled-up to displace fossil fuels. Low-carbon electricity will require building new generation and transmission infrastructure, while increasing the supply of biomass will require growing dedicated crops and/or collecting wastes and residues. These changing resource flows are quantified, and I will discuss how sectors and disciplines must work together to manage trade-off’s and reinforce this transition.
