Proleung Khmer (Khmer Soul) is a community-driven initiative dedicated to commemorating the Khmer genocide and honoring the resilience of the Khmer American community. April 17, 2025, marks the 50th anniversary of the fall of Phnom Penh to the Khmer Rouge. As home to the second-largest Cambodian population in the United States, Lowell plays a vital role in this commemoration.

This year’s theme, "A 50-Year Journey of Remembrance and Resilience," reflects the ongoing commitment to preserving Khmer heritage, fostering education, and creating spaces for healing. Through cultural events, performances and educational programs, Proleung Khmer pays tribute to the lives lost, amplifies the voices of survivors and celebrates the strength of the community.

The initiative features traditional performances, historical exhibits, panel discussions and literary arts highlighting the rich cultural legacy and contributions of the Khmer diaspora.

The official launch of Proleung Khmer’s programming will take place on:

Tuesday, March 25
4:30 - 6 p.m.
Middlesex Community College, Bradford Morse Federal Building
50 Kearney Square, Lowell

A full schedule of events leading up to the Closing Ceremony in May is available on the Proleung Khmer website.
