The Department of World Languages and Cultures invites you to the fourth viewing in our Spring 2025 documentary series. Join us for "Atempa" on April 9.

"Atempa" is a portrait of San Blas Atempa, a town in Mexico known for embracing powerful forms of femininity in ways that are shaped by Zapotec indigenous traditions. It follows Tino, a teenager who dreams of becoming a Muxe Queen. “Muxe” is a third gender with characteristics and roles that are unique to Zapotec culture.
