To ensure a consistent and effective medical response across campus, UMass Lowell is making adjustments to how first aid is accessed. Rather than relying on individual first aid kits, we encourage all faculty, staff, students and visitors to contact UML Police Dispatch at 978-934-4911 (extension 44-911) to report injuries and request assistance. Our UML EMS program is available to provide immediate care when needed.

What’s Changing?
• First aid kits will be phased out in most buildings to prevent outdated or incomplete supplies and ensure trained responders provide care.
• Labs and other spaces may keep their existing first aid kits, but departments will be responsible for maintaining and restocking them as needed.
• Labs handling specific chemical hazards, such as hydrofluoric acid, must have calcium gluconate gel readily available for immediate treatment.

Enhancing Emergency Preparedness
As part of our ongoing commitment to campus safety, we are expanding our Stop the Bleed program by placing kits in key locations throughout campus. These kits provide essential tools to control severe bleeding in critical situations. Refer to our online map of bleeding control kit and automated external defibrillator (AED) locations.

Why This Change?
These updates will help ensure that injuries are quickly and appropriately addressed by trained professionals while reducing uncertainty about where to find medical supplies.

We appreciate your support as we continue to strengthen UML's emergency preparedness.
