The University of Massachusetts Lowell Office of Life Safety & Emergency Management, in collaboration with FEMA, UMass Lowell EMS, UMass Lowell Police, and Lowell Fire Department & Emergency Management, is excited to announce that FREE Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training is now available for UMass Lowell students, faculty, and staff this fall!

A CERT training program offers valuable benefits by providing you with essential emergency preparedness skills. Through hands-on training in areas like first aid, fire safety and disaster response, participants gain the confidence and ability to handle crises effectively. Beyond immediate safety, CERT fosters teamwork, leadership, and communication, skills that are transferable to both personal and professional settings. This program not only enhances campus safety but also empowers students to take an active role in their community's well-being.

Schedule: Classes will occur on Monday and Wednesday nights from 5-7:30 p.m., right on campus.

Here’s a sneak peek of the topics covered:

March 24 - Disaster Preparedness & Stop the Bleed
March 26 - CERT Organization & Terrorism
March 31 - Disaster Medical Operations Part 1 & Hands-Only CPR
April 2 - Medical Operations Part 2 & Disaster Psychology
April 7 - Fire Safety & Utility Control
April 9 - Search & Rescue
April 14 - Disaster Exercise & Graduation

This is an excellent opportunity to gain critical skills, build community connections, and prepare for emergencies. Plus, all graduates will receive a FEMA certificate.
