Construction activities, including the pouring of concrete, will resume as soon as the weather allows. Pathways around the perimeter of the project remain open, but the quad itself will remain closed during this time.
The $2 million project addresses drainage issues in the area between O’Leary Library, McGauvran Center and Weed Hall, which created safety concerns when standing water froze. A new stormwater drainage system has been added to prevent water from collecting in the plaza.
By replacing the old concrete steps with sloped pathways, the project also improves accessibility between O’Leary, McGauvran and Weed. New granite benches will provide more outdoor seating, creating a more vibrant and welcoming environment on South Campus.
