Rothstein is a producer with the investigative unit at WCVB-TV in Boston, specializing in covering criminal justice issues and vulnerable populations. He has used public records and data analysis to uncover disparities in how men and women are prosecuted in prostitution cases; how minorities are treated differently by police during traffic stops; and how Massachusetts hid the existence of more than 6,000 sexual assault kits that had never undergone DNA testing.
He has won numerous New England Emmy awards and Edward R. Murrow awards. He has been producing investigative stories for local television since 2006. Before joining the broadcast industry, he was a newspaper reporter at the Boston Herald, The Patriot Ledger and other publications. He is a graduate of Colby College and the Columbia University School of Journalism.
