The College of Fine Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences Dean’s Speaker Series is proud to welcome Claudia López, the first female and LGBTQ+ mayor of Bogotá, Colombia, for a talk on Monday, Nov. 25 in Coburn Hall, Room 255. Join us for a compelling discussion of how globalization, urbanization and climate change can impact city and regional governance, with a spotlight on global trends and insights from Bogotá’s metropolitan region.
López served as mayor of Bogotá from January 2020 to December 2023, becoming the city's first female and openly LGBTQ+ mayor. Known for her commitment to environmental, social and anti-corruption issues, López previously served as a Colombian senator (2014-2018) and ran for vice president in 2018. Her tenure as senator was marked by groundbreaking anti-corruption efforts.
López holds degrees from Universidad Externado, Columbia University and Northwestern University. She is currently a Harvard Advanced Leadership Initiative fellow.
