Born in 1936, Dacia Maraini is one of the most acclaimed authors of contemporary Italian literature. In her work, Maraini explores themes of social and political (in)justice, feminism and women’s rights, oppression, and identity. She is the author of over twenty novels, many short stories, poetry, screenplays, essays, and reportages. Maraini’s work has been translated into many languages, making her an influential figure in contemporary literature. Thanks to her vast contribution to literature and her commitment to social issues Maraini has won numerous prestigious awards, and she was a nominee for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2012.
