Over the next two weeks, three dedicated UMass Lowell students will participate in person at the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan. These students—Ellen Bancroft, an undergraduate business finance major; Sibel Manafova, an undergraduate energy engineering major; and Brooke Sienkiewicz, a Ph.D. candidate in applied biology—will join global leaders, scientists, and activists to tackle the pressing climate issues facing our world today.
In addition, ten other UMass Lowell students and faculty members will be participating virtually, engaging in critical discussions, networking, and learning opportunities throughout the conference.
We invite you to follow along on their journey and support our UMass Lowell team as they work to build a more sustainable future. Follow their updates on Instagram at @sustainableuml.
Upon their return, they’ll be sharing their insights and experiences at a special event. Join us to hear firsthand from our COP29 attendees and learn more about what these climate talks mean for our community and beyond.
